Brisk trade at the Ascot June Sale
Brisk and active trade was the trend of the day at Tattersalls Ascot June Sale. A satisfying set of statistics were produced; an aggregate of £705,700, a median of £3,100 and an average of £5,428. The clearance rate concluded on 82%.
Top lot of the day was the Seven Barrow's consigned Sugar Baron (Lot 98 - pictured above), an eight-year-old Presenting gelding with a chase rating of 135. Sugar Baron boasts some fine form having beaten horses such as Gold Present, Ar Mad and Present Man and more recently second to What A Moment and Benbens. He was snapped up by N Wright for £28,000.
Consigned by Sullivan Bloodstock Ltd. Desiremoi d'Authie (Lot 79) will now be under the care of trainer Chris Gordon having successfully purchased him for £22,000. The French-bred gelding by Cachet Noir was a winner in France and placed twice over hurdles.
David Christie and Ray Nicholas teamed up to purchase the Sandhill Racing Stables Pyrios (Lot 162). The Heliostatic five-year-old gelding has been placed on four of his seven starts and was knocked down for £22,000.
UK Pointer Steel The China (Lot 106), the impressive winner of the 2m 4f Maiden at South Durham Point to Point, was purchased by Justwow for £20,000. The Craigsteel gelding who was consigned by Nunstainton Stables, is a half-brother to two winners and is related to Father Matt, CAROBEE and WINTER SQUALL further down the page.
Fergal O'Brien took the opportunity to purchase the useful Project Mars (Lot 169) a Presenting gelding who was placed on four occasions, once in a bumper and three times over hurdles. The six-year-old was consigned by Nick Gifford's Downs Stables and knocked down for £20,000.
At the conclusion of the sale, Director of Horses in Training Sales Richard Pugh commented;
"Today's sale provided active trade and saw a large number of agents and trainers to Ascot who have realised the potential this venue has to offer. Graduates of Ascot Sales have won over 1,000 races in 2017/18 which has further encouraged vendors and purchasers to trade here.
"We are extremely satisfied with today's results. We have produced an aggregate of £705,700 which is similar to last year and an clearance rate that mirrored last year of 82%. We now focus on the Ascot July Sale which takes place on Tuesday 17 July where there is already a heightened demand for places."
