Red a definite contender for top honours
Definitly Red marked himself down a live
contender for Gold Cup glory at this year’s Cheltenham Festival with a
commanding display in the Grade 2 Cotswold Chase for trainer Brian Ellison and
Owner Philip Martin.The son of Definite Article jumped superbly
throughout under Danny Cook and stayed on gamely to record a hard-fought eight
length success. Definitly Red won his
Maiden point-to-point at the third time of asking for handler Brian Hamilton by
twenty lengths and subsequently sold to owner Martin for £110,000 at the 2014
Cheltenham November Sale.
Santini maintains unbeaten record
The Nicky Henderson trained Santini
continued his education and maintained his unbeaten record when landing the Grade
2 Ballymore Classic Novice’s Hurdle in the colours of Mr and Mrs Kelvin-Hughes
under jockey Jerry McGrath. The striking son of Milan realised £150,000 at the
2017 Festival Sale after winning his Maiden point-to-point for Ed Walker at
Didmarton and was consigned by Polly Gundry's Holcombe Brook Stables.
Oscar digs deep
Enniscoffey Oscar relished the step up to 3 miles when digging deep to land the Grade 2 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle on Doncaster’s flagship card. The Emma Lavelle trained inmate was made to pull out all the stops on the run in but stayed on in determined and game fashion to grind out victory under Leighton Aspell. The son of Oscar was a last fence faller when coming to challenge in his Maiden point-to-point at Ballindenisk for handler Donnchadh Doyle and the Monbeg syndicate. He was purchased for £45,000 at the 2016 Cheltenham May Sale by Gerry Hogan.
