Record Breaking Results at the Tattersalls Ireland Ascot July Sale

Top honours on the day went to Lot 111, Rock On Rio from Denis Murphy’s Ballyboy Stables. The gelding by Captain Rio impressed on his debut by winning a four-year-old Maiden at Tralee in May. He was knocked down for £75,000 to young and upcoming trainer Andrew McNamara who is already making a name for himself in the training ranks.

 Wildcard entry Fortified Bay (Lot 128A) proved a popular addition to the sale. By Makfi, the four-year-old gelding won a Bumper at Perth only his only start. Offered by Sam Curling’s Skehanagh Stables, he was sold to Kevin Ross Bloodstock who had to go to £70,000 to secure the winner.

Earlier in the day, Alan Swinbank’s Western House Stables offered the lightly raced Austerity (Lot 30). The son of Elnadim was bought by JJ O’Leary who paid £47,000 for the close relation of black-type performer Celtic Silence and Celtic Sapphire.

The sale attracted a host of leading purchasers including Harold Kirk, Anthony Bromley, Tom Malone, Bobby O’Ryan, Aidan O’Ryan, Kevin Ross, Matt Coleman, Aiden Murphy, Ryan Mahon to name just a few along with new trainer Andrew McNamara who purchased today’s top lot for £75,000. We have had great support from our loyal vendors with the calibre of horses they have offered today and in particular with the Select Session.

Ascot is becoming a trusted venue for both vendor and purchasers alike and in view of recent results, the future looks very bright.

We can now look forward to sourcing quality horses with the focus on the August Sale which takes place on Tuesday 16 August 2016.”
