Thatsy shines at the Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham April Sale
Thatsy consigned by Donnchadh Doyle's Monbeg Stables shone at the Tattersalls Ireland April Sale when knocked down for £130,000. The sale concluded with a turnover of £1,265,500, a median of £47,000 and an average of £50,620.
Top lot of the day was the only offspring of Martaline in the catalogue. Thatsy (Lot 15), consigned by Donnchadh Doyle's Monbeg Stables, ran out the impressive three length winner of the four-year-old Maiden at Lingstown and followed that up with a gallant second in the Winners of Two at Loughanmore. Grand National winning trainer Gordon Elliott returned to the venue where Tiger Roll and Irish Grand National winner General Principle were bought and teamed up with agent Aidan O'Ryan to secure the gelding for £130,000.

From the family of the high-class Foxchapel King, Colin Bowe's Cobbler's Way (Lot 28) produced a promising performance when second on his debut run and only beaten a length and a half in the four-year-old Maiden at Dromahane. Consigned by Milestone Stables, the Oscar gelding was knocked down for £120,000 to agent Mags O'Toole and trainer Henry de Bromhead.

At the conclusion of the Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham April Sale, Director of Horses in Training Sales Richard Pugh commented;
"Whilst it has been a terrific season at the Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham Sales thus far - this evenings April Sale is the first one to show a decrease in the key indicators. Comparing sales to previous year however will never apply to select form sales such as this one in the same way as it does to sales with more substantial catalogue quantities.
"April 2017 bounced back from a relatively low comparable turnover in 2016 to return exceptional results last year. Already the 2019 calendar seems to be strongly in favour of the April Sale in terms of likely supply and we must accept that the factors outside of our control had an effect on this evenings results and look forward to what appears likely to be a very strong sale here on 31 May 2018."
