The admirable EL ASTRONAUTE recorded his
twelth career success when comfortably winning the feature Rockingham Handicap
at the Curragh last night for trainer John Quinn. The son of Approve bounced
out and made virtually all to win going away in what is one of the most
competitive handicaps run all year across the Irish Sea. He was purchased by
Richard Knight from Kilminfoyle House Stud at the 2015 renewal of the Ascot
Breeze Up Sale for £38,000 and has amassed earnings in excess of £340,000.
Earlier in the day at Nottingham BE PREPARED romped to a 6 length victory in the opening two-year-old 6F maiden for Simon Crisford and Kerrin McEvoy. On only on his second racecourse start the son of Due Diligence showed marked improvement from his debut run and now looks set take on some stiffer assignments for connections. He was purchased by Stroud / Coleman Bloodstock at this year’s Ascot Breeze Up Sale for £42,000 from RMM Bloodstock.
At Newcastle the imposing GALLASIDE stepping up to 7F for the first time scored decisively for Archie Watson and owners Apple Tree Stud. The son of Lucayan caught the eye of Federico Barberini who snapped him up or £40,000 at this year’s Ascot Breeze Up from Con Marnane’s Bansha House Stables.
